Cleaning the Sooty Copper Tiki Torches

When your outdoor torches get dull and corroded because of long-term use, you can bring back the once lost luster through proper cleaning.

There is nothing prettier and magnificent than having a sparkling copper tiki torches in the garden on a sunny day or even at night! Your neighbor will be so jealous about these festive lights blazing around your backyard or garden. But when it becomes corroded and its luster fades out, that could be embarrassing. One of the best ways is to clean your tiki torches regularly especially every after use.

Tiki Torches

  • If your tiki lamps are just plain dirty – When you just leave your torches to be permanently planted in the ground, they will be prone to wide variety of dirt, dust and pollens of flowers. If this is the case with your tiki torch, you can clean it up with an all-purpose cleaner. Just spray the can of cleaner on a piece of cloth and polish the torch away. These cleaners can remove all types sooty residue but not the heavy burnt on soot.
  • If your torch burnt on the residue of the soot – You can try Brasso or any favorite cleaner that could clean copper safely. Spray the entire torch with the cleaner and let it sit for few minutes on the areas that really sooty. Then, clean the surface with a rag. You can use the product sparingly. If you do not want to see yourself doing a lot more of cleaning than you planned to doing it.
  • If your tiki torch is corrosive – this home remedy is only applicable to those overly corroded copper tiki torches because the cleaning may also remove the protective clear coating of the copper. As you can see on the above photo, the photo labeled as Before had dirt, burn on soot and corrosion. After applying the cleaner like Simple Green and Brasso, it was now pristine and clean, of course. But there is a DIY cheap cleaner that did some little fix at the top of the nasty corrosive torch. Mix one tablespoon of flour, one teaspoon of salt and vinegar to make a paste. Apply the paste to the corroded areas only. Then let it sit for about 1 hour. After an hour, the corrosion will be completely wiped out. What remains is the same luster of the copper. All clean!
Tiki Torches
The above are only a few suggestion or tips in cleaning corrosive tiki torch. Make sure that you will not leave your torches with the garden dirt like this one for too long. You should regularly check the torches when not in use whether they are already sooty or not. If they are, take some time to sit and clean the burnt soot. It will be more embarrassing if your guests will be the first ones to notice that. Instead of being amazed by the glaze of the beautiful torches, they will be disgusted of the soot that comes out of the torches because it was not cleaned. With these few solutions, you may be able to have an idea to bring back the pristine luster of your torches. Good luck!
