Do not spray chemicals or through kerosene to the pit especially when you are near. It can cause sparks that could literally burn you or any flammable objects nearby.

When the party is over. Never leave the pits unattended. Extinguish the fire properly. Make sure that the fire has cooled down completely. The ashes can contain fire even if you think you have already extinguished the fire in the pit. You need to be so certain in this case. Small fire can grow and would create bigger flames when unattended. Dispose the ashes properly and clean the pit.
